The stevia plant is a small shrub from the composite family. This family also includes, for example, the true chamomile or the dandelion.
A stevia plant can grow between 60 and 100 cm high. In the meantime, you can also buy them here and grow them in your own garden.
Stevia is also called sweet herb or honey herb. The correct botanical name of the Stevia plant is "Stevia rabaudiana".
The sweet main ingredient of the leaves, the so-called steviosides, are in pure form up to 300 times sweeter than sugar.
Stevia was already used in pre-Columbian times to sweeten food, for herbal teas or in natural medicine.
Stevia has also been used in Japan and America for some time to naturally sweeten foods and beverages, such as green tea.
